Novak Djokovic talks of his future plans
In his interview after the win over Kecmanovic, Djokovic showed no signs of retirement when asked about his future plans. With Novak yet to celebrate his 35th birthday and having the examples of Roger Federer and Serena Williams who are yet to retire despite being 39 and 40-year old respectively, Novak has no immediate plans as of now.
“But before that, there is obviously what motivates you: Why do you play? And for me, I try to always draw my strength from the love and passion of the game. I choose to play. Nobody is forcing me to play. I have done enough in my career to be able to stop today. But I still feel motivated and inspired,” he said.
“I like to play in front of people, of course here in Serbia, it’s a unique opportunity for me, and this kind of unique occasion feeds me with good energy. I like being here and I like the competition. I also like, weird as it sounds, being devastated by a loss in an important game. Because I know that means I care about winning and being able to compete with the best players in the world,” Novak added.
After the against and advancing to the semi-finals of the Serbian Open, Djokovic also said that he somehow managed to physically stay with his opponent and get momentum to his side. He felt he took the match up a level by coming back from a set down in the match. He added that age is just a number for him and he feels younger than 35.
“I managed to physically just stay there with my opponent, yesterday and today. I was physically able to get into the position to have the momentum on my side. Generally, I felt better than I did yesterday, Even though I was a set and a break down I felt game-wise that I took it up a level or two. For me, age is just a number. I sincerely feel younger than 35,” said Novak who will now take on Karen Khachanov in the semi-finals.
