“I’ve had Stefanos Tsitsipas as a partner” Nick Kyrgios calls his former Doubles pairing with the Greek his worst ever
Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas
World No. 47 Nick Kyrgios and World No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas played out a thrilling match during the third round of the recently concluded 2022 Wimbledon Championships where Nick advanced into the 4th round with a 4-set win over the Greek No. 1. Stef had won the first set against Nick but the Australian made an impressive comeback in the next three sets to dump Stef out of the competition as he eventually finished as the runner-up at the Grand Slam.
The match is in memory for the drama caused during the course of the match with both players going at each other, fighting with the umpire and eventually finding themselves fined for their actions during the match which were totally against the spirit of the sport and were deservedly made to pay for their actions.
“It can’t get worse than that” Nick Kyrgios on his Doubles pairing with Stefanos Tsitsipas
The drama at Wimbledon started when Stef angrily fired a shot into the crowd that narrowly missed a spectator with direct contact although after the ball rebounded, it did hit one of the spectators. Nick demanded Stef should be defaulted for it similar to how Novak Djokovic was defaulted from the 2020 US Open and he refused to play until senior match officials came as he was disrespectful towards the chair umpire.Stef then started hitting shots on Nick’s body as he was losing the plot of the match with every passing game.
With a cold handshake between the two after Nick won the match, Stef carried the anger into the press conference calling Nick an ‘evil, manipulative, bully from his school days’ to which Nick then responded by saying that let Stef first learn how to beat him and then make these claims. Nick recently made an appearance on Instagram Live with Prakash Amritraj and Jack Sock for the upcoming 2022 Citi Open in Washington DC where he talked about his plans for Doubles in the US Open Leg series.
“We’ve got a lot of doubles, we’ve got doubles in DC which I’m super excited about. I am going to play doubles with Jack Sock in Washington. I have had Stefanos (Tsitsipas) as a partner there in 2019, so can’t get much worse than that,” said Nick laughing at his comment while Sock and Amritraj were left stunned. Sock then said, “I think that’s my time to get out of here!” as the other two continued to laugh at the snarky remark made by Kyrgios.
