The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) announced the winners of their annual awards for coaches- Coach of the Year on Wednesday. Jannik Sinner’s coaching team- Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi were voted as the best coach duo of the year for bringing out the best performance from Jannik Sinner. While many appreciated the choice, Novak Djokovic’s fans expressed displeasure claiming Goran Ivanisevic was robbed.

As Novak Djokovic won three of the four Grand Slam titles this year, a couple of Masters titles as well as the ATP Finals title, the Serbian’s fans feel that Ivanisevic deserves to be named as the coach of the year. They expressed their displeasure by commenting on ATP’s official post announcing the winner on social media.

Most of them claimed that the Croatian needs to be applauded for the hard work he puts in to keep Djokovic at the top throughout the season.

There was also a section of fans who felt that Cahill and Vagnozzi did not deserve to win the award although they did not support Goran Ivanisevic to named as the Coach of the Year.

Nick Kyrgios seems to agree with ATP’s choice for Coach of the Year

While Novak Djokovic’s fans disagreed with ATP’s choice for the Coach of the Year, Australian tennis ace Nick Kyrgios seemed to agree with the pick as he heaped praise on Jannik Sinner and his coaching team. Kyrgios reserved special praise for Darren Cahill. Kyrgios lauded Cahill for working on Sinner’s serve and making him a dominant force.

Notably, while Simone Vagnozzi has worked with Sinner since February 2022, Darren Cahill joined the team in June 2022. Ever since then, Jannik Sinner has been making some good progress. He finished in the Top 4 last year while this year, the Italian brought home quite a few laurels including the prestigious Davis Cup.
