Former Australian tennis player and commentator Jelena Dokic made an unconventional request to Aryna Sabalenka after the Belarusian won her quarterfinal match at the 2024 Australian Open. Dokic asked Sabalenka for her towel and the defending champion had no problem giving it to Dokic.
But this request was an unusual one and fans were left confused about the reason behind it. For those still wondering, Dokic came up with an explanation as to why she asked Sabalenka for her towel.
The Australian revealed the reason behind her request. Dokic said that she asked her so that she could get it signed and then auction it for a noble cause.
Jelena Dokic wants to raise funds for the children and women affected by domestic violence and hence she asked Sabalenka for her towel. The Australian plans to get it signed and then float it in an auction so that she can raise some funds for her cause.
I have brought it here (to the studio) for two reasons. I wanted to bring it back and ask her 'Do you want it back, sorry to put you in that position'. I am gonna try and get her to sign this and I am gonna get it auctioned for women and kids affected by domestic violence.Jelena Dokic said.
