Jelena Ostapenko trolls a journalist by sarcastically claiming Coco Gauff could’ve played better despite her losing just 2 games in the entire match

Coco Gauff registered a dominating 6-0, 6-2 straight sets victory over Latvian tennis player Jelena Ostapenko in the quarterfinal of the US Open today. After Jelena Ostapenko’s victory over Iga Swiatek in the last round, everyone started to consider her as a serious title contender. However, Coco’s sensational performance in the match gave her no chance at all and this shows how good of form she is currently in.
After the match, Jelena Ostapenko was asked in the post-match conference whether she noticed any improvement in the American youngster’s performance to which she gave a very witty and sarcastic reply. “Honestly I was expecting a little bit more from her today. I felt like she had a little bit, like, a lot of pressure because obviously to play at home is not easy, as I experienced it before myself,” Ostapenko said.
However, on a serious note, Ostapenko also added that Coco Gauff has seemingly changed her strategy. “But yeah, I think she maybe changed a little bit the tactics. She’s a great player, she’s still very young. But I mean, as I said, the score is what it is, but so many games, especially in the second set, I had so many chances and I was missing the balls which I normally am not missing. Yeah,” she said.
Coco Gauff’s route to final is now almost clear
Coco Gauff is set to face a fairly easy opponent in the semifinal, which automatically increases her chances of qualifying for the final of the 2023 US Open. Coco Gauff will face either Karolina Muchova or Sorana Cirstea, who are both lower-ranked players compared to her.
This is the first time that Coco Gauff has qualified for the semifinals of the US Open and the odds seem to be in her favor this time. If everything remains as planned and she wins her semifinal match, there is a high chance that she will face the current World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the US Open.
This was hands down one of the best displays we have seen from the 20-year-old in a long time. Jelena Ostapenko is a player who is in great form and she defeated the former World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the last round. To defeat such a player in this fashion is outstanding.
