American tennis player Jenson Brooksby who was handed an 18-month suspension by the International Tennis Integrity Association (TIA) on Tuesday (24 October) will be following Simona Halep’s footsteps as he has said that he will move to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and will appeal against the decision. Notably, Brooksby was handed a suspension following Three Whereabouts Failures.

An independent tribunal set by the ITIA found that Brooksby’s degree of fault was very high in the missed test and that he was negligent while the Doping Control Officer (DCO) tried their best to locate their player. This means that the American will not be able to take part in, coach, and watch any tennis tournament organized by the ITF, ATP, WTA, and the four Grand Slam events.

Now, Brooksby has said that he will move to the CAS. The American said that he was disappointed to learn about the verdict from the ITIA while claiming that he has never taken a banned substance. Brooksby then talked about the two missed tests as his fault while asking for the third missed test on June 4, 2022, to be set aside.

I understand that it is my responsibility (to be present for the doping test) and will learn and grow. I accepted that 2 of my missed tests were my fault, but I continue to maintain that my June 4, 2022, missed test be set aside.
Brooksby wrote in a statement issued on his social media accounts.

Jenson Brooksby explains how he missed the June 4 test

The 22-year-old American narrated how he missed the June 4 test, which was a second attempt from the ITIA DCO. Brooksby claimed that he was in the hotel room for the entire hour of the testing window. However, some miscommunication from the hotel staff and the DCO not calling him on his hotel room phone led to him missing the test.

Brooksby further claimed that the Doping Control Officer called him on his cellphone (which was silent) only in the last four minutes of the testing window. Brooksby then vowed to appeal against the verdict from the ITIA while assuring his fans that he would be back on the tour soon.

Notably, Jenson Brooksby, who achieved his highest-ever ranking in June 2022, has been inactive on the tour since the Australian Open, wherein he advanced to the third round before falling to Tommy Paul. Now, this 18-month suspension means the American won’t be able to make a return before 4 January 2025.

In case you missed!
