American tennis player Jessica Pegula has been awarded the Jerry Diamond ACES Award by the WTA for going above and beyond in promoting women’s tennis to fans, media, and local communities. The award, which was started in 1995, was most recently won by Maria Sakkari. Angelique Kerber and Elina Svitolina have also won it in the past. 

This award is given to a player who showed consistent professional conduct and willingness to promote women’s tennis to fans, media, and local communities by taking part in off-court promotional and charitable activities

Pegula is currently one of the Top 20 representatives in the WTA Players Council. Thanks to her consistent performances and her knack for advocating for women’s tennis, she is highly respected in the circuit. She does so by leveraging her Top 10 rank and her social media presence. Pegula has over 170k followers on Instagram. 

Moreover, she also takes part in charity events. In 2023, Jessica Pegula played in the Stars of the Open, Ukrainian relief efforts at the US Open, the fourth annual tennis fundraising event in the Bahamas in December.

Among the other winners at the WTA Awards 2023, Swiatek won the Player of the Year award, becoming the first player ever to win it twice in a row since Serena Williams. Andreeva of Russia won the Newcomer of the Year award while Elina Svitolina won the Comeback of the Year award. 

Jessica Pegula’s year at a glance

Pegula had a pretty great campaign in the 2023 season. She reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the Wimbledon, the fourth round of the US Open, and the third round of the French Open.

Apart from that, she was the runner-up in the 2023 WTA Finals and the Qatar Open. In both tournaments, she lost to Iga Swiatek in the final. She won the Korea Open and the Canadian Open. She finished the season as World No. 5 in the ATP rankings. 

Jessica Pegula will next play in the 2024 Australian Open. The American was named on the entry list of the tournament that was released a few days ago. She made it to the quarterfinals of the tournament last year and will look to better her performance this time.
