American No. 1 Jessica Pegula spoke out against a journalist for putting out an incorrect tweet about her. Following her loss against Madison Keys in the fourth round, a journalist put up a tweet saying she was crying after the match. In a funny encounter at a press conference, she called out the journalist and made it clear that she, in fact, was not crying while exiting the court.
In the conference, she had asked the reporter if he had put out the tweet, which said she was crying. When the reporter did not seem to give a conclusive answer, she further prodded him, asking if he was from The Tennis Podcast. When she still did not seem to get a satisfying reply, she finally addressed the reporters generally, and said, “Someone said I walked off the court in tears. I most definitely was not crying. I got waxed in an hour. ”
While until the end she was not sure it was that particular reporter’s channel that put up the tweet, she still made it clear that the tweet was spreading misinformation. She also cheekily said that it sounded really sad, and that she was definitely not crying.
While the American did not see success in the singles part of the tournament, she is still a part of the US Open. She has made it to the quarter-final of the doubles category, alongside fellow American Coco Gauff. The All-American team will face Hsieh Su-wei and Wang Xinyu in the quarter-final.

Jessica Pegula faces a disappointing end to her singles campaign

The home hero Pegula faced a heartbreaking loss to 17th-seeded Madison Keys in the fourth round of the US Open. While her performance was highly anticipated by both her home crowd and audiences all around the world, she was disappointed, sending another American in her place.
While the home crowd got traded in one American for the other, Pegula is yet another story. With consistent semi-final finishes at all Grand Slam events this year, she was in red-hot form. However, she was upset by Madison Keys with a score of 6-1, 6-3.
However, this is not the end of her time at the US Open 2023. She is still taking part in both the Women’s doubles and the Mixed Double’s categories. In the women’s doubles, she is a part of the third-seeded team, alongside friend and long-time doubles partner Coco Gauff. She plays for the first-seeded team in the Mixed Doubles category, along with Austin Krajicek. She has made the quarter-final in both categories.
