The American World No.3 Jessica Pegula gives due credit to Iga Swiatek for making her push the limits and earn the victory in the Canadian Open semi-finals. This is the third win of Pegula over Swiatek in 8 encounters. Their previous match was in the Qatar Open, where the Polish prevailed in straight sets. So Pegula had her revenge for that as well here. The final score was 6-2, 6-7(4-7), 6-4.
After the match, an overwhelmed Pegula said on the court after the win, “Oh gosh. It feels great. No better way to earn it, right? It was a tough match. I felt like I was in control. But as the World No.1 does & a champion, she played some really great tennis. She made me earn it.”
Pegula will be one of the top contenders for the Canadian Open, as well as the upcoming home tournaments in Cincinnati and the US Open as well. With her current form, the American will be an absolute force to reckon with for the rest of the tour. The way she has solved the Swiatek puzzle in the Canadian Open will boost her confidence for the upcoming tournaments, for sure.
Jessica Pegula has never gone past the quarters in any Grand Slam

The American World No.3 Jessica Pegula has played the quarter-finals of each Grand Slam tournament at least once. But in all the last-8 matches, she ended up on the losing end. Last year in the US Open, her loss was against the eventual champion Iga Swiatek. She will be looking to better her result this time around in her home Grand Slam.
Pegula has the game to beat any top player in the world. Her ranking of three proves that point. But at the same time, the American has failed to deliver in the crucial moments of the big matches. This was evident in each of her 6 quarter-final losses combined in all 4 Grand Slam tournaments. Nevertheless, the 29-year-old has enough experience now to overcome the tough situations.
If she can somehow get over the mental pressure in the crucial moments, the American will be ready for the big battles having the groundstrokes. Pegula has the hard court game to thrive in the North American hard court swing as well.
