American World No.3 Jessica Pegula backs Liudmila Samsonova, the Canadian Open finalist, on her dig at WTA over the scheduling of the tournament. The rain-hit tournament had a lot of rescheduling that led to multiple matches for the same player on the same day. Samsonova was one of the main players who was on the receiving end due to this.
Pegula said about the “unfair playing ground”, “I know scheduling wasn’t in her favor. It s*cks when you feel like you’re not on a really fair playing ground, especially someone like her who is such a great player.”
Continuing the train of thought, Pegula said, “Obviously physically she wasn’t feeling her best, She’s had a crazy schedule. Congrats to Liudmila. I think everyone needs to give her a round of applause because she’s played like five matches in three days.” (H/T: Tennis Majors)
Jessica Pegula is one of the favorites for the US Open

By beating the Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals of the Canadian Open and then going on to win the title, American World No.3 Jessica Pegula is now one of the hot favorites to win the US Open. She has never gone past the quarter-finals in any of the Grand Slam tournaments before, despite playing great tennis most of the time.
She has played in six Grand Slam quarter-finals until now. It must be disappointing for her to think that she was not able to win at least one of those matches. Her last Grand Slam also ended up in the last eight. This year, this was her second quarter-final loss in Wimbledon after the Australian Open.
With top players like Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Elena Rybakina failing to hit the top gear in the hard court season, a rejuvenated Pegula will be trying to grab her chances with both hands in her home slam in the coming days.
