Notably, Jessica Pegula parted ways with Witt after she was knocked out of the 2024 Australian Open, where she fell in the second round to Clara Burel in a 6-4, 6-2 defeat. While Pegula has not said anything after splitting with her coach, Witt said it was a total surprise for him.

Jessica Pegula slated to make a comeback soon

Things have not been smooth for Jessica Pegula in the past few weeks. After a fabulous 2023 season, Pegula has had a bumpy start to the 2024 season. As the American tennis ace started her season with the 2024 United Cup, Pegula lost one of the two matches played. She then took part in the Adelaide International.

Although Pegula reached the semifinals in Adelaide, it was not as good a campaign as she would have liked. Then at the Australian Open, the 29-year-old faced a shocking defeat to Clara Burel of France. Pegula withdrew from the doubles event as well.

Three weeks later, Pegula dropped a bombshell by firing Witt. While the reasons are not clear enough, the 29-year-old might be worried about her empty Grand Slam cabinet. Injuries have also pegged her down. Pegula recently withdrew from the Middle East leg of the WTA tour due to a neck injury.

However, the 29-year-old is slated to make a comeback soon. Pegula remains on the entry list for the WTA 500 event in San Diego, which is set to begin on Feb. 26. Fans might get to see the 2023 WTA Finals finalist in action
