Jessica Pegula will be wearing a special outfit in the 2023 US Open that Adidas has made to honor Billie Jean King, celebrating the 50th anniversary of her victory in the ‘Battle of the Sexes.’ The outfit, including the jacket and shoes, takes inspiration from King’s iconic look over the years.
To put it in context, back in 1973, the then-top women’s tennis player King beat former No. 1 ranked men’s tennis player Bobby Riggs in what came to be known as a “Battle of the Sexes” match. Adidas is paying tribute to this incredible achievement by the legend.
However, it has not been well received by tennis fans from across the globe, as a lot of them disliked the bottom as there is ‘too much going on’ there.
Twitter reacts to Jessica Pegula’s US Open outfit honoring Billie Jean King
Social media is of the opinion that the outfit does not actually resemble Billie Jean King’s iconic look and just looks like a basic blue tennis kit. This is arguable as she usually wore a rather darker shade of blue than that being used by Jessica Pegula.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what netizens have to say:
All these comments will definitely not have any effect on American tennis star Jessica Pegula at all. She is at the top of her game and has been in incredible form lately. Thus, her confidence heading into the US Open will be at an all-time high.
