Former American tennis player Jimmy Connors has always been a great fan of Novak Djokovic. In his podcast ‘Advantage Connors’, he recently revealed why exactly he admires the Serbian and his approach to the game as Djokovic continues to prepare for the ATP Finals 2023 which is set to commence on 13th November 2023.

Connors said that Djokovic is a bit old school and aggressive in the way he plays and that is one of the many reasons why he loves the player.

Why am I a fan of Novak Djokovic? Because I like the way he plays. Because he's a bit old school in the way he plays. He enters the court to try to be aggressive on returns, to advance on the court. He takes the ball early and I like that. You have to go there and go for it

Djokovic has had a dream run in 2023 so far and he wants to finish the season on a high note by winning the 2023 ATP Finals. He already won three out of the four Grand Slam events this year and could have also won the Wimbledon Open 2023, had it not been for Carlos Alcaraz. The Serb recently also won the Paris Masters 2023 and is in unstoppable form.

The Serb is currently way ahead of Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP rankings and is one win away in the ATP Finals from ensuring his position as the year-end World No. 1. This will be his eighth time becoming the year-end World No. 1, with which he will extend his own record.

Novak Djokovic eyes to break Jimmy Connors’ record

The 2023 Paris Masters that Djokovic won recently was the 97th singles title of his career. The Serb has won a record 70 big titles in his career, namely 24 Grand Slams, 40 Masters and 6 ATP Finals. Now, he eyes to break Jimmy Connors’ record of most titles won by a singles player ever which stands at 107 trophies.

Jimmy Connors said that if someone breaks his record, he would prefer that it be Djokovic as he admired the Serb very highly.

I finished a long time ago, 35 years ago with 109, it has stood a long time and if somebody passes me, you better be pretty freaking good, you know? And if that happens, on you go

Connors also said that although he likes his record, records are meant to be broken and if somebody comes and finally does it, it’s good for them.
