The biggest debate of the 21st century in the world of tennis by far has been on only one topic and that is- who amongst Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic is the greatest player of all time? There are separate fan clubs for all three players and fans passionately fight for their star.

However, arguments and statements passed on this topic are not only limited to fans but also to experts and legends of the sport. Jimmy Connors, one of the best of his time also had his say on the rivalry.

Recently the American said that Federer and Nadal are not even the best of their time. Fans of Federer and Nadal didn’t approve of Connors’ words. After facing a bit of slack from the audience, Connors decided to respond on his Podcast ‘Advantage Connors.’ “I never said Federer and Nadal weren’t the great players they are, I just said there’s a new guy (Djokovic) on top of the heap, that’s all.

And he has won the most Grand Slams as we speak. I’m not saying they aren’t great players and I’m not in the kissing business, anyway, I’m not going to say they aren’t great players. They are and they’ve proven it and they’ve been proving it for 15, 16, 17 years, no matter how many years they’ve played, with the number of Grand Slams they’ve won. I’m just saying the rules have been set on the importance of Grand Slams. That’s all I’m saying.” He cleared most of what he said by calling both Federer and Nadal great players. He also said that his comments were on the basis of Grand Slams won.

Novak Djokovic is on the brink of creating history in men’s tennis. He is one Grand Slam away from winning 24 of them and becoming the first male player to do that. That’s not all though. He will also tie with Margaret Court‘s Slam record of 24. He was very close to doing that at the Wimbledon Championships. However, fell short of the young Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in a tough five-set final.

Alcaraz will be there and many other competitors will be in the way of the Serb. However, with his high match fitness Djokovic has proved that he is still one of the finest out there. He will be eyeing the US Open big time and will put every ounce of energy out there. But the Serb will face a stiff challenge from the young guns who won’t allow the experienced pro to clinch a record title.
