The 36-year-old has become arguably the best player tennis has seen so far. He has won 7 out of the 10 Slams he has played and reached the final of two over the past three years. He recently won his 24th title at the US Open this year.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion had revealed his competitive spirit to the people. He said “Knowing that I play at such a high level still and I win the biggest tournaments in this sport, yeah, I don’t want to get rid of this sport or I don’t want to leave this sport if I’m still at the top.”
Connors has acknowledged the fact that Djokovic continues to dominate the sport despite being in his late 30s. That is also one of the reasons why the eight-time Grand Slam champion believes that Djokovic commands everyone’s respect.

Jimmy Connors lauds Novak Djokovic for competing with the young players
The 71-year-old believes that it is astonishing and amazing that a 36-year-old is making headlines. He believes it is a statement of how good he is. Connors says that Djokovic’s continued success despite the young players is praiseworthy. The Serbian is right now the best player in tennis, despite his age. There are many young players who cannot hold a candle to him. Therefore, it doesn’t make sense for Djokovic to walk away from the sport while he is at his best.
The former World No. 1 said that he doesn’t blame Djokovic for not retiring. Conners thinks that Djokovic is right in staying around for as long as the young guys don’t beat him.
He said, “He says I’m staying around as long as these young guys don’t want to beat me. I’m gonna stay and play and I don’t blame him, because he is good.”
