Former tennis player Jimmy Connors admitted to liking the personality of Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev after his controversial flipping at the crowd made headlines. Medvedev, after his loss to Grigor Dimitrov in the Paris Masters had showed his middle finger to the crowd in Paris.
He apparently did that due to the constant booing of the crowd against him. Connors appreciated this gesture by the World No.3.

On being asked why he did what he did, Medvedev replied saying that he was just checking his nails. He made a subtle gesture towards the crowd after his loss against the Bulgarian. This action of his landed in controversy as fans all over re-shared this video multiple times on social media and expressed their dissatisfaction over the incident. Connors, however, liked this different attitude of the Russian and mentioned how this is how you draw a crowd and gather attention around you.
Medvedev was the second top-seeded player to be ousted from the tournament. Carlos Alcaraz too suffered an early exit in the Paris Masters, following a major upset by Roman Safiullin.
Daniil Medvedev’s actions also brought out the issue of double standards by the ATP
The Russian’s gesture of flipping the crowd garnered a lot of criticism from tennis fans worldwide. A few fans also pointed out the fact that Daniil Medvedev did not receive any sort of warning or violation for doing such an act, while Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic get penalties for doing so.
People were quick to judge the partiality and biasedness of the ATP. They were upset at the double standards shown by them. Earlier in the Vienna Open as well, Medvedev hit an old lady in the crowd. The Russian did not receive any warning as well. Fans pointed out how the World No.1 was banned from the 2020 US Open for unintentionally hitting the lines judge.
