American Tennis Legend Jimmy Connors has been seen discreet in the media in recent years and this took a new high when he opened up the expectations from the Spanish Prodigy and current world no.1 Carlos Alcaraz while talking about the changes on the ATP Tour in his podcast ‘Advantage Connors’ alongside his son, Brett.
Alcaraz made an instant impact on the Tour rising to World No. 1 and a Grand Slam title in his first-ever full season. With first impressions of him being a clay court player, he showed his prowess on hardcourts as well and on the back of those performances, he’s already one of the important players at the moment.
“You have a target in your back now, especially Alcaraz, who just won the US Open with the year he had and he is number 1 in the world. He must realize he’s everyone’s target when you’re in that position. He will soon have to start to understand. You have to start winning even when you’re only at 70%.
“You don’t like the court surface because it’s a bit too slow. It’s going to be interesting to see how it goes from now on“, Said Connors, obviously getting the wind on Carlos’s statements during his defeat against David Goffin in the Astana Open complaining about the slowness of the court, wanted to send him a message of warning.
