American legend Jimmy Connors gave some pieces of advice to the Spanish World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz‘s quotes about the way he always thinks about the Serbian World No.1 Novak Djokovic in every training session. According to the American, too many thoughts about a single player alone can tamper his chances against other opponents who have different styles of play. He also pointed out on how the Spaniard fails to Jannik Sinner, whose style is way different.

Connors on his podcast, Advantage Conners, said, “Alcaraz said that every time he went to training, every time he played, he thought of Djokovic. My first thought on this is that I can understand it even though Alcaraz beat Novak at Wimbledon and he was a bit of a thorn in his side. You have to be careful saying that, because then you’re only preparing for one player.”

The American continued on how he thinks about Alcaraz’s preparations, “And I also understand that you say to yourself that if I play well enough to beat this guy, I will be able to beat everyone else too. But that’s not necessarily true, because other guys have different games, like he saw with Sinner, and the way he plays is different than Novak or Medvedev.” (H/T: Advantage Connors Podcast)

Carlos Alcaraz trails Jannik Sinner, ties with Djokovic and Medvedev in head-to-head

The Spanish 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz has three main rivals on the court as of now – They are also the other members of the top 4 in the world right now. Against Novak Djokovic, Alcaraz holds a 2-2 head-to-head. They have also faced twice in the Grand Slam tournaments with one win each.

Against the Russian World No.3 Daniil Medvedev, Alcaraz ties the head to head at 2-2. They have played twice in the Grand Slam tournaments as well, similar to Novak Djokovic, and they also have one win each. While Medvedev defeated the Spaniard in the 2022 Wimbledon, the Spaniard got the revenge in this year’s Wimbledon semi-final.

Against the Italian World No.4 Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz has a losing head-to-head 3-4 right now. The semi-final loss against the Italian in the recently concluded China Open in straight sets was a disappointing performance by the young Spaniard. They have played twice in the Grand Slam tournaments with one win each, similar to Alcaraz’s rivalry with Djokovic and Medvedev.
