Saudi Arabia has made progress in making itself known in tennis. After making their presence felt in various other sports, it was high time for the Gulf Nations to turn their eyes towards tennis. 

Despite the multiple players voicing their opinions against this collaboration, they have made quite some progress in tennis. Recently, there have been speculations about the oil-rich country trying to host a tournament just before the Australian Open.

There are speculations about it being a 10th Masters title, which is sure to get the crowd interested. However, the speculations came with a lot of debate. Tennis legend John McEnroe reckons that this is going to cause a lot of problems in tennis.

If the news of the new event turns out to be true, then the tour will have a very short break before the new season. After a year- of work, the players usually use the off-season period to regroup and recuperate before the next season. 

However, due to the addition of the new tournaments, they will have a shorter time to rest and just enjoy their personal lives. Moreover, it seems to be an important masters tournament where players can earn points and start the season on a high.

In a recent interview via Reuters, tennis legend John McEnroe spoke about the Saudi invasion of tennis. That’s not all; he also gave his opinions on the supposed new Masters tournament hosted by Saudi Arabia.

He further revealed his disappointment in the tennis organizers for not allowing a proper off-season not only for the players but for the fans to recuperate.

I'm not a big believer in having the tennis circuit go year-round. We need an off-season. Not only for players to recuperate but for fans to recuperate. And this year-round we've always offed-seasonally with. I think tennis has shot itself in the foot for too long,
Said the former tennis player

On the other hand, tennis enthusiasts and fans also go a full year cheering their players on and need some time off to regain that excitement before they see them on the courts. 

Nonetheless, it is a huge step forward for Saudi Arabia after their multi-million-dollar deal with ATP and success in getting into an exhibition event featuring top ATP stars that is set to take place later on in the year.
