Australian unseeded player Jordan Thompson, who is on the path of Novak Djokovic‘s dream run of 24 Grand Slam titles, says that he is not fearing the mighty Serbian before their second-round clash in the Wimbledon center court. The 29-year-old booked his spot for the Djokovic showdown after completing a comeback win over the unseeded American Brandon Nakashima in the first round.

Thompson said, “This could be as much a dream as a nightmare. I saw a few guys having nightmares against him on the center court. But I hope that will not be my case. I’m going to have to play better than I did in the first two sets today (Monday), that’s for sure. I have to believe, silly as it sounds, that I can win, otherwise there’s no point in going there. I know the odds are firmly against me.

Djokovic’s last loss in the Wimbledon center court dates back to the 2013 finals where he lost in straights to the British legend Andy Murray. Since then, he has never lost in the center court of Wimbledon. And by the looks of it, Thompson will have to make some miracles to get at least a set off the Serbian who is in red-hot form and has yet to lose a Grand Slam match this year.

The Serbian star player will be looking to win his 8th Wimbledon title this year. The way he is playing at the moment, it is hard to see him losing here at least until the semi-finals where he is expected to meet the Italian young star Jannik Sinner according to the projected draw. The Serbian who was expected to meet last year’s finalist Nick Kyrgios in the last eight has withdrawn from the tournament due to an injury.

With the Australian’s withdrawal, Djokovic’s last eight test will be against the Russian seventh seed Andrey Rublev according to the projected draw. Even if Rublev is up against the Serbian, it is hard to see him winning against the Serbian considering the experience of playing on grass courts and the immaculate form he is in, at the moment, playing with zero pressure after getting the 23rd Grand Slam already in Paris.

It will be interesting to see whether the Spanish World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz who is playing his best-ever tennis on grass, being able to clinch the preparatory tournament of Queens can continue his run here in Wimbledon. If he can reach the finals from the other end of the draw, a recap of the French Open semi-final with the two top players right now is on the cards for tennis fans.
