Carlos Alcaraz, the young Spaniard, has been the talk of the town for the last two years. His quick rise into tennis got him the respect of the fans and tennis insiders. However, despite his outstanding tennis on the field, he is often judged.
Earlier, tennis legend Andy Roddick had commented on the Spaniard’s serve. In an episode on his podcast “Served,” the American stated that Alcaraz’s weak point is his serve.
It has been noticed in many matches that the 20-year-old often fails to hit consistent serves, ending up in double faults. Though his other shots cover up for his serves, it is still an important skill to master.
Replying to Roddick on behalf of Alcaraz was his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero. In a recent interview with Clay Tennis, the Spanish coach gave a reply to the criticism by Roddick.
Sure, it’s easy to criticize him when it’s your best virtue, and you see everything so simple. The opinion is respectable, although I don’t share it completely, because Carlos has improved his service a lot. If you saw him three years ago you would say “fuck, how (bad) he serves”. It’s something that improves little by little, it’s not so easy to have a serve with a lot of speed and a lot of direction.Said Ferrero in the interview.
The Spaniard disagrees with Roddick and believes that his player has improved a lot compared to previous years. Admitting to having to change Alcaraz’s serve and then polish it, the coach proudly said that his player is improving.
Juan Carlos Ferrero reckons that the serve is one of the hardest things a player can improve
Service is one of the hardest shots to master, and players usually try to master their service to gain an advantage in the match.
However, there is one player who is known for his bad serves. Carlos Alcaraz has a reputation as a bad server and has received many comments for it.
Defending those comments is his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, who is affirmative that the Spaniard is improving. Furthermore, the coach also revealed that they made a biomechanical change in his service, which takes time to improve, and unlike other players, who were born as good servers, Alcaraz was not a good one.
A player like Roddick, who is a natural serve player, can improve very easily because it is his best virtue. It’s like if you tell Carlos to improve his forehand. It’s simple because it’s his most natural stroke.Said Ferrero in an interview.
Alcaraz has been making strides in his service, and the coach also stated that his player is improving step by step. Right now, Alcaraz is treating a small injury that he caught in Rio.
After a couple of bad tours, the Spaniard looks to return stronger than before the two ATP 1000 tournaments before the much-awaited French Open.
