“Look in the mirror of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, or Novak Djokovic,” Coach’s valuable suggestion to Carlos Alcaraz amidst his tough time off the court
Juan suggests Carlos to look up to the Big-3 after he admits of 'wrong doing' during his injury period.

Carlos Alcaraz, Roger, Rafa, and Novak
Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero recently advised Carlos Alcaraz to take inspiration from the Big Three and reflect on his actions during his injury hiatus. Alcaraz, who recently won the title in Argentina after making a successful comeback, acknowledged that he had not been maintaining the right regimen off the court in the past few months. Carlos is currently battling Novak Djokovic for the world No.1 spot and Juan also gave his remarks on this.
Carlos Alcaraz recently made a highly-anticipated comeback to professional tennis in Argentina after suffering an abdominal injury that prematurely ended his 2022 season. Unfortunately, his misfortune continued during pre-season training as he sustained a leg injury that caused him to withdraw from the Australian Open. However, the 19-year-old demonstrated resilience and skill by winning his seventh career title at his first tournament back after four months.
Juan spoke to the RNE about Carlos’ comments and said, “If he has talked about that, it is because it has happened. I think it influences him that he has reached the top very young. He has to look in the mirror of Rafa, Roger, or Novak, to achieve things that nobody has achieved and they have continued fighting and fighting for these types of objectives.”
Juan further added by saying, “I think Carlos is far from being able to compare himself with this type of player, but at the level of objectives in terms of tournaments he can aspire to the maximum. But all this has been very good for him, I think it will make him mature a little more and that he sees things from various angles, that of winning everything and that of now recovering from an injury.”

Carlos Alcaraz sets his eyes on ATP’s top spot again after triumphing at Argentina Open

While Carlos Alcaraz was out of action due to injuries, he had to give up his world No.1 position to Novak Djokovic, who clinched the Australian Open title during that time. As both players are now competing to secure the top spot, the race has become intense. In fact, there is a possibility that Alcaraz could catch up to Djokovic in ranking points if he successfully defends his Rio Open title this week.
Addressing this battle, Juan said “It’s nothing more than a strange coincidence. They are numbers, the year has just begun. Djokovic is playing at a stratospheric level and what Carlos has to do is be at his highest level to be able to compete every week, getting positive tournaments that will make him be close to Novak.”
Alcaraz will next square off against Dusan Lajovic in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Rio Open on Friday. In the absence of major stars, the Spaniard certainly looks the favorite to achieve glory in Brazil this week.
