Juan Martin Del Potro identified Carlos Alcaraz as the natural heir to his famous thundering forehand in a recent interview with Tennis.com. Del Potro’s legendary hammer-like stroke has left an indelible stamp on tennis history, and he sees Alcaraz as a player capable of continuing on that heritage. He also applauded his fascinating style of play and compelling on-court personality.
“I don’t know if anyone has the hammer forehand right now, but I think Carlitos Alcaraz has a very powerful forehand,” Del Potro said, stressing Alcaraz’s outstanding strength. He went on to say that he believes in Alcaraz’s talent and expects him to improve his game in the future years.
Del Potro also praised Alcaraz’s overall game and personality, “I’m crazy about his game, his charisma. I really like the way he moves on the pitch.” This comment emphasizes the enormous impact Alcaraz has had not only on the court but also with his presence and conduct.
Del Potro sees Alcaraz as a prospective candidate to lead the fight following the departure of the iconic ‘Big 3‘ – Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. “After the departure of the Big 3, the transition will be in good hands with Carlitos, as well as Jannik Sinner,” he said, recognizing both Alcaraz and Sinner as crucial roles in defining tennis’s future.

Del Potro opens up about his emotional decision to withdraw from the US Open
Juan Martin Del Potro opened up about the inner agony he felt after formally withdrawing from the US Open due to a knee injury. The tennis professional revealed his difficulties in breaking the news, particularly given his personal connection to the tournament.
He pondered on the significance of the US Open, saying, “Emotionally it was really difficult for me, because every time that I speak about the US Opens, it means a lot to myself.“
Earlier this year, Del Potro met with his team and medical professionals to examine the prospect of competing in this year’s US Open. The notion of saying goodbye to the event, and possibly his career, was a driving reason behind this thought. “At the beginning of the year, I was talking with my team, with my doctors, trying to see the option to be ready for the Open, at least for the last time in my career,” he further explained.
Recognizing the significance, his team backed his desire to make one final appearance. Del Potro’s determination to push himself for the tournament took a toll on his physical well-being. “Every time that I push hard, my leg, and my knee, and I was trying to push hard, the pain increase a lot in my training sessions,” he added.
In the end, Del Potro made the difficult decision to withdraw from the US Open this year. He acknowledged the importance of his well-being and stated, “At the end, I don’t want to make my knee worse that I have it now. So I decide to quit for this year’s US Open.”
