After winning the 2021 US Open as a teenager, Emma Raducanu emerged on the global tennis scene in an emphatic fashion, having earlier been almost unnoticed. However, in 2022, it’s almost been the reverse with injuries plaguing her performances. Unfortunately, the Brit has become a laughing stock on social media.

Recently, Raducanu also retired from the ITF’s prime team event, the Billie Jean King Tennis Cup (earlier known as Fed Cup) due to an injury, after which former British Fed Cup captain Judy Murray slammed the news as “disappointing.”

Meanwhile, Raducanu assured fans on social media that she had been trying everything possible she could to get into shape for the Billie Jean King Tennis Cup.

“so sad to miss being a part of this amazing team in the upcoming BJKC! 😔 I am really sorry to miss all of you in Glasgow, I was so looking forward to playing on home soil in front of you🇬🇧 I tried my best to be ready, next time! backing my girls & I’ll be with the team in spirit,” she wrote on social media.

Raducanu winning the US Open was very beneficial for the sport in the UK. The teenager was hailed as a sensation in the country. Raducanu influenced many after her dream run at last year’s US Open. Her win was followed by tennis’ fan-base increasing a lot in the country.

It increased so much that PrimeVideo and the LTA have collaborated to launch a new girls-only tennis program with the hope of inspiring the next generation.

Talking about the initiative, Raducanu said, “I’m extremely pleased to see the funds generated from the US Open Final go towards this new programme, which is a step in the right direction to bring more young girls into the sport and will continue to support a bright future for women’s tennis in this country.

As an ambassador of LTA Youth, it’s great to see a complimentary program take shape and hopefully bring some more success,“ she added.
