Former World No.1 Justine Henin has her say about the controversies going around the Daniil Medvedev-Alexander Zverev fight. In a recent interview with Eurosport, she talked about it while not wanting to blame the Russian completely. She also talked about how tennis was played back in her time and in the 80s when the spat between players was more normal than now.

As Henin said, “Things are getting spicy, It’s going to be interesting, everyone is talking about this thing between Zverev and Medvedev. It happened already in the 80s with other players, and it was nice. Things are getting spicy, It’s going to be interesting, everyone is talking about this thing between Zverev and Medvedev. Henin continued, “I still think it’s going to be the best that they talk together and bring back from the past. But maybe they like it, so maybe it’s the reason.
I don’t think it was unfair but we know Daniil admits he’s human, sometimes he’s not perfect. He talked about Diego Schwartzman, I think it’s more [serious] with Zverev.

Daniil sometimes can get frustrated, upset, and we don’t understand. He’s original, it’s how he expresses his feelings. I don’t want to blame him, it’s not that bad. Him as a player, his personality. Let them talk together.” (Source: Eurosport)

Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev have work to do during the clay season

Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev

The German World No.16 Alexander Zverev was playing some of his best tennis during the past years before the freak ankle injury sustained during the French Open 2022. Zverev has not been able to get back into top form since his return to the ATP Tour. His Australian Open run ended in the second round itself. Then he played ATP Rotterdam but there also his campaign ended in round two.

Zverev will be looking to play better in the coming tournaments of the clay court swing. After a tight loss against Medvedev in the pre-quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters, the tennis world is looking forward to seeing him back in the best and challenging the top players.

Russian World No.5 Daniil Medvedev has historically struggled on the clay court season. Despite winning 19 ATP career titles, he has never won any on clay. That speaks volumes keeping in mind that the Russian has reached at least the finals in all of the hard-court ATP-1000 tournaments and Grand Slams. Other than the Mallorca Open (Grass) won in 2021, all of his titles were won on the hard courts.

With yet another year passing by, the Russian will try to improve in his least preferred surface. The momentum was right there for him having won 24 out of the last 25 matches including four titles in the past five weeks before the Monte Carlo Masters. Now with a loss in the last eight at Monaco, the Russian will try to improvise in the coming tournaments at Barcelona and Madrid.
