With this exhilarating achievement, the 27-year-old Czech has mustered the support of many back in her home country. The Czech Republic will be rooting for Muchova as she plays the semis on Friday.

French Open finalist, Muchova, beat her quarter-final opponent with ease. She crushed her Romanian counterpart over two sets to cruise into the semi-finals. Cirstea lost to Muchova with a score of 0-6, 3-6, and will make her exit from the tournament. Citing her mental strength for her second set comeback, the Czech player in her post-game interview said, “I always feel that I’m pretty, I would say, tough cookie in life as well.”

In the on-court interview after her win over Cirstea, Muchova also talked about what tennis is like in Czechia since another Czech, Marketa Vondrousova, made it to the quarter-finals. “Big competition in Czech Republic. It’s tough. But we support each other. That’s very important,” the 27-year-old said.

She further told the reporter that she’ll be rooting for ninth seed Vondrousova for her quarter-final match against Madison Keys.“It’s just great that we can push one another,” she added. The World No. 10 will now face sixth seed Coco Gauff in the semi-finals.
