British world number one Katie Boulter revealed the harsh side of the WTA Tour in a recent interview. She said that despite winning matches, she and her fellow players have to deal with abuses online.

Boulter recently got crowned the new British number one by overtaking Emma Raducanu who is currently recovering from the surgeries on her hands and ankle and won’t be playing in the upcoming Wimbledon Championships.

Boulter, on Tuesday (June 27) faced a back-to-back first-round exit when she got knocked out from the Eastbourne International by Petra Martic in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. Before the Eastbourne event, Boulter was defeated by Zhu Lin in straight sets at the Birmingham Classic. But these defeats came after her title-winning campaign in Nottingham Open where she defeated fellow Brit Jodie Anna Burrage in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to lift the trophy.

Being a British player means Katie Boulter has chances to meet the member of Britain’s royal family. She once met the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2007 during the opening of the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton.

Boulter also recalled the time when she watched a match by sitting beside Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. “She was cracking jokes…she was really enjoying the tennis. She was surprising…and absolutely stunning,” Boulter said about Middleton to The Telegraph.

Boulter however admitted that despite these exposures, she is still grounded and will still be working hard no matter what. “I have stayed the same person the whole time, and I am only ever going to be that person.”

Meanwhile, Boulter has been given a wild card for the upcoming Wimbledon Championships, starting July 3. Last year at the SW19, she reached the third round only to get defeated by Harmony Tan in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. She has expressed her desire to not only emulate what fellow Brit Emma Raducanu has achieved since winning the 2021 US Open Grand Slam title but hopes to climb to the top of the WTA rankings as well.
