Stefanos Tsitsipas made a successful title defence at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters as he defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight-sets to pick up his 8th career title and second Masters title on the Tour. He defeated Fokina 6-3 7-6(3) to pick up his first title of the season.

Fokina, the Spaniard was the giant killer of the tournament. He took down the world number 1 Novak Djokovic in the round of 32, Taylor Fritz, the winner of Indian Wells in the quarterfinals and Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinals to set up the final clash with Tsitsipas. Having reached his first-ever Tour final, Fokina was looking for his first title but it wasn’t the day for the 22-year old youngster.

Lame was present in the court and was seen supporting Tsitsipas as the Greek star defended his title against an inspired Fokina in the picturesque Monte-Carlo. Stef was the favourite being the defending champion and after some early exits of a few top seeds, he was the favourite and played like one. The claycourt specialist looked great in the tournament and has had the best start possible to the clay season. He will look forward to the French Open and with his form looking exceptional. Having been the runner-up of the Roland Garros in 2021, he would be gearing up to go a step further this year.
