Latest ATP Rankings post Barcelona Open 2022: Novak Djokovic retains No. 1 spot; Carlos Alcaraz breaks into top 10
Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic
The men’s tennis this year has certainly been remarkable and memorable with many new budding potentials. Carlos Alcaraz has made his presence known by winning the Miami Open and showing off his impressive skills and potential. World No. 5, Stefanos Tsitsipas has also proved to be a challenge to the men by winning the Monte Carlo Masters and stunning the world by defending his title twice in a row.
World No.1 Novak Djokovic on the other hand has been having a tough time this year with his miserable performance in the two tournaments he has played. The first tournament was the Dubai Tennis Championships where he lost in the quarterfinals to the runner-up Jiri Veresly and lost in the round of 32 matches against the runner-up of the Monte Carlo Master series to Spaniard Alexander Davidovich Fokina. But the Serbian more than made it up in the Serbian Open in his hometown by reaching the finals and putting up a valiant fight against Russian Andre Rublev.
Carlos Alcaraz now has another title in his name- the Barcelona Open. The youngster is following the footsteps of his idol Rafael Nadal who has won a record 12 times in the tournament. The youngster is on a roll and his playing style has often been compared to his idol. His manner and style have got him a fan club not just among the audience but also among the coaches who reckon he has a real chance of winning the French Open in 2022. The Spaniard is now World No. 9 after his splendid display in the Barcelona Open and we only that he continues in the same way.
New ATP Rankings post 2022 Serbia Open and Barcelona Open
The Serbia Open and Barcelona Open saw some big names taking part in the tour. While the Barcelona Open was none other than Carlos Alcaraz, the Serbia Open champion is the Russian Andrey Rublev who got the better of World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
The Serbian after his performance in Belgrade now stands firm and continues on being the World No. 1; Russian Daniil Medvedev followed by German Alexander Zverev; ‘king of clay’ Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas World No. 5.
Alcaraz has become the new World No. 9 after his performance merely at the age of 18. The youngster has only more and more to prove to the world and will accomplish what his idol has achieved and perhaps even more. His mental will and power are his strength and his flexibility to adjust to the ball is another wonderful thing.
On slipping into the top 10 the Spaniard is ecstatic and is only going to prove more and more. World No. 2, Daniil Medvedev has managed to stick to his position neither moving higher nor decreasing in his ranking.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has managed to defend his title twice in a row, thereby able to remain World No. 5 in the process. There does not seem to be much difference in the ranking otherwise with the only mention being Carlos Alcaraz. We hope all the players are prepared for their upcoming French Open and show us one of their best performances on clay.
