The 2022 French Open concluded on Sunday, 5th June with Rafael Nadal defeating Casper Ruud in the finals of the men’s singles. The win for Nadal gave him his record-extending 22nd career Grand Slam title and his 14th French Open title. For Ruud, it was a maiden Grand Slam final and he had to settle for the runner-up trophy as the Rafa gave yet another justification for why is he called the King of Clay.

The tournament was very vital in terms of ranking updation as World No. 1 Novak Djokovic was the defending champion this year and having lost 2000 points without any title defence in the 2022 Australian Open, a lot depended on him to save his ranking points. He however succumbed in the quarter-finals to Nadal who defeated him in 4-sets allowing changes in the rankings.

With World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev going out in the 4th round, he lost his chance to regain the top rank once again having spent two weeks earlier in the season. As for World No. 3 Alexander Zverev, he could have become the World No. 1 had he won the title but an unfortunate freak injury during his semi-final match against Rafa ensured that Djokovic will remain at the top for another week at least, starting his 373rd week as the top-ranked player.

Denis Shapovalov‘s first-round exit makes way for Diego Schwartzman to re-enter the Top-15 as he replaces the Canadian.
