Iga Swiatek of Poland has been in fantastic form all year. From reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open 2022 to establishing her dominance over the Qatar Open, she has made a name for herself. She continued her incredible form in the finals of the BNP Paribas Open as well. Then, her astonishing career graph saw her win the Miami Open, WTA Stuttgart Open, and Italian Open as well. Recently, she won the French Open 2022 after beating Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-3. Thus, she won her second Grand Slam title and her second French Open title.

After her spectacular win in California, the Pole was in line for a major ranking boost. She climbed up two places in the WTA ranking ladder, reaching a career-high second place. However, after the former world No.1 Ashleigh Barty’s shocking retirement, Iga Swiatek acquired the top spot in the WTA Rankings ladder. Since then, there has been no looking back for her.

Anett Kontaveit, on the other hand, has risen to a career-high position of 2. The Estonian tennis sensation has risen through the ranks in the last seven months thanks to victories in Ostrava, Moscow, Cluj-Napoca, and now St. Petersburg. Kontaveit entered the week of February 14 at a career-high ranking of No. 6, up from 30th in the world when she first walked the court in Ostrava last September. Kontaveit is only the sixth WTA player to win 20 or more indoor matches in a row since 1989. She will now begin her career as the world’s No. 2 WTA tennis player.

Coco Gauff, the teenage tennis sensation, has not only won hearts but also reached No. 13 in the WTA Rankings after her remarkable performance in the French Open 2022. She was a strong contender for the title but her fairytale run came to an end. The 18-year-old was defeated in straight sets by Iga Swiatek, who won her second Grand Slam title. Gauff, however, will have more confidence after a meteoric surge up the rankings ladder, and she will be looking forward to conquering her next tournament.

Ons Jabeur continues to climb the WTA Rankings after making back-to-back finals appearances in Madrid and Rome. This month, she climbed to No. 6 for the first time in her career. Jabeur has won more clay matches than any other player, coming in second in Charleston and Rome last week while earning her biggest victory in Madrid. Nonetheless, despite her lacklustre performance at the French Open, a top-five debut appeared inevitable, and it came after the tournament when Ons Jabeur reached her career-high ranking of 4.

Barbora Krejciková, the 2021 French Open champion, was knocked out in the first round of the competition. The 26-year-old feared a substantial drop in the world rankings after her early defeat at Roland Garros. Before the competition, she was ranked second in the world, but she dropped to 15th after failing to get past the first round.

Meanwhile, Maria Sakkari and Aryna Sabalenka also saw a change in their positions after their dismal performances in the clay-court championship. Maria Sakkari dropped from third to fifth place, while Aryna Sabalenka moved up from seventh to sixth place. In addition, Spaniard Paula Badosa reclaimed her third place, which she had previously lost.
