German 35-year-old Laura Siegemund‘s history with her on-court dramas is coming to the limelight after a heated encounter against the American World No.6 Coco Gauff in the first round of the US Open. In a hard-fought battle of three tight sets, the German qualifier lost by 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. Though the American favorite struggled in the first set, she was able to come back strong from the second set onwards.

Social media has now dug deep into Siegemund’s history of alleged poor sportsman spirit. A tweet has been shared where the former Croatian tennis player Mirjana Lucic Baroni revealed the poor on-court antics of the German. In the same tweet, the Russian former tennis player Svetlana Kuznetsova‘s and Bulgarian 34-year-old Sesil karatantcheva‘s responses were mentioned. Both of them appeared to be supporting Mirjana’s remarks about the German player.

Laura Siegemund qualified for the main draw after going through the qualifiers in this year’s US Open. Though she had moments of heated debates throughout the first-round match against Coco Gauff, the battle was intense.

Coco Gauff is one of the favorites of the US Open 2023

The American home favorite Coco Gauff’s best result in the US Open was her quarter-final appearance last year. With the confidence gained from the Cincinnati triumph this year, The American star will be trying to get her first title this year. Her best-ever Grand Slam performance was the French Open 2021 runner-up place, where she lost against the Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek.

The recently concluded Cincinnati Open title was Gauff’s first-ever WTA-1000 tournament title. Her victory over the Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals itself was the main talk of the Women’s tennis world. It was the first victory of the American over Swiatek in eight attempts.

Though Gauff didn’t play a convincing first-round match, she will try to forget this in her second-round match against the Russian unseeded player Mirra Andreeva. It will be interesting to see how she can better her performance in the coming rounds.
