World No. 20 Leylah Fernandez has been the talk of the tennis world at the moment after the extravagantly gallant year she had this season. She was recently announced by Tennis Canada as one of the recipients of the 2023 Tennis Canada Excellence Awards for Player of the Year alongside fellow countryman Felix Auger-Aliassime.
She soon took to Twitter to pen a heartfelt message for her fans, expressing her joy in having been declared the winner of such a glorious award.
She talked about what a scintillating year it has been for her in terms of personal glory and also in line with winning something for her country. She paid her warm thanks to all the individuals who had voted for her and kept on supporting her on her impressive climb to the top this season.
Fernandez still couldn’t believe herself after the things she had achieved this season, which had been a dream.

Leylah Fernandez’s wonderful 2023 season
Leylah Fernandez has had a great year, and there is no doubt whatsoever about who was going to win the Canadian Women’s Player of the Year award.
Among her notable performances this season, she has made it to the finals of the French Open in the doubles category, and in October, she also ended up lifting her third career WTA title at the Hong Kong Open in China.
She was also an integral member of the Canadian team, helping her country extravagantly win their first-ever Billie Jean King Cup. She won all four of her singles matches in the competition held in Seville, with the most impressive win coming up against the Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrouvosa in the semi-finals.
