Canadian professional tennis player Leylah Fernandez has become the trendsetter in tennis ever since 2021, when she marked her grand entry into the sport. She is a total fashion buff and sets the trend for the tennis world right now. Last year, for the same reason, she became the first global ambassador of Canadian sportswear Lululemon, which has been their biggest move into tennis so far. Now, she has been seen making yet another sensational change in her outfit that came to the fans’ notice.

Leylah Fernandez was spotted wearing basketball shoes at the US Open in San Diego and Guadalajara. Previously, she used to wear On shoes. In fact, she was one of the first players to start playing tennis wearing On shoes (On is owned by Roger Federer). She used to wear Lululemon outfits paired with On shoes. In fact, that was her go-to outfit at the start of the 2023 US Open as well. However, at the end of the tournament, she was seen wearing WNBA star Breanna Stewart’s signature sneakers, Stewie 2 by Puma.

“They actually look a lot like tennis shoes—that’s actually where I saw them. I saw it close to the tennis shoes and it looked like a tennis shoe, and I’m like, Ah, let me try this out. The clerk just told me, No, it’s basketball shoes. And then, some funny statement my dad made… He said why not just try it out on the tennis court? I’m like, yeah I’ll do it! Let me buy it and let’s try it out. And I fell in love with it,” Leylah Fernandez revealed.

Puma claims the shoe has a high-abrasion rubber outsole, non-slip rubber compounds, and cushioning that is made from nitrogen-injected foam. The cushioning gives the sneakers the comfort, responsiveness, and explosiveness that are needed for the game of basketball while also keeping them lightweight.
