Serbian tennis superstar Novak Djokovic’s reaction to the attack on Kosovo has prompted Montenegro politician Ljubomir Filipovic to demand a lifetime suspension for the 24-time Grand Slam winner. As Kosovo lost one of its policemen after 30 armed men attacked a monastery in Banjska village on 24 September and Djokovic shared a story on Instagram that seemed to glorify the attackers killed, Filipovic has demanded a lifetime ban on the Serbian.

The Montenegro politician has said that if Djokovic is not banned, he should be expelled and avoided by normal people as he is promoting propaganda where terrorists are being portrayed as heroes. It is worth mentioning that Djokovic shared a post that seemed to glorify the three killed militants in the attack in Kosovo.

“Djokovic should be banned from tennis for life. If not banned than shunned by the normal people of the world. He is now joining Serbian state propaganda which is trying to portray terrorists as heroes,” wrote Filipovic while sharing a picture of Novak Djokovic’s Instagram story.

What has Novak Djokovic said about Kosovo in the past?

This is not the first time Novak Djokovic has said something about Kosovo. Earlier, in May this year, when there was tension escalating between Serbia and Kosovo, Djokovic had called for peace while calling Kosovo “the heart of Serbia”. After his win at the French Open, Djokovic had signed on the camera, “Kosova is the heart of Serbia, stop violence!”

This gesture from the Serbian has drawn immense criticism from Kosovo Tennis Federation Pars Jeton Hadergjonaj who had accused Djokovic of provoking ethnic Serbians again and again. He had also claimed that Djokovic had supported “Kosova is Serbia” chants during a basketball game in the country.

Meanwhile, Djokovic had defended himself saying that it is something he believes and would do it again if needed. “I would say it again, but I don’t need to because you have my quotes if you want to reflect on that,” Djokovic said. “Of course I’m aware that a lot of people would disagree, but it is what it is. It’s something that I stand for. So that’s all,” said Djokovic.
