The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) holds the WTA Finals, formerly known as the WTA Tour Championships or WTA Championships, after each season. The top ranked athletes are the only ones allowed to compete in the event.

WTA players compete all year long in over 53 Women’s Tennis Association tournaments across the world, in addition to the four Grand Slam competitions, to earn a spot in this esteemed tournament. The top 8 singles players and top 8 doubles pairs on the Porsche Race to Shenzhen leaderboard at the end of the year are eligible to participate in the tournament.

This tournament gives the most points to a player after the grand slams. Also, the prize money is greater than any of the other Women’s Tennis Association tournaments except again the grand slams. After the conclusion of this competition, there is a possibility of a major shake-up of the leaderboard. This will be reflected in the rankings.

Martina Navratilova of the USA is the most successful player at this tournament. She has won 8 singles titles and 13 doubles titles throughout her career. This year the tournament will be held in Fort Worth in the USA.
