The French Open, famously known as Roland Garros, is the second Grand Slam of the year, which takes place at the Stade-Roland Garros in Paris. This year, the tournament will mark its 93rd edition since the Open Era. While the qualifiers begin on Monday, 22 May 2023, the main draw will take place on Sunday, 28 May 2023. The championship will bring quite entertaining for the viewers with not less than 20 events and a total of 891 matches.

Rafael Nadal and Iga Swiatek are the defending champions in the men’s and women’s singles categories, respectively. However, the 14 times champion of the tournament Nadal will be missing the Major for the first time since 2005. With back-to-back clay tours withdrawal, the Spaniard is said to be focussing on his complete recovery.

The British player Andy Murray decided to skip the Major as well, and his compatriot, Emma Raducanu is also off-court due to injury issues. The other prominent players to join the withdrawal list are Nick Kyrgios, Marin Cilic, and Matteo Berrettini.

In ATP, Carlos Alcaraz will be entering the tournament as the World No.1, after reclaiming the spot from Novak Djokovic. The 22 Grand Slams champion Djokovic is third-seeded at the major and is one of the leading favorites for the title. The latest addition to the potential contenders’ list is Daniil Medvedev, who has risen to the World No.2 spot after his victorious triumph at the Italian Open. After reaching three finals on the clay tours, Holger Rune is depicting a perfect form to win his maiden Slam in Paris.

In the WTA circuit, Iga Swiatek is definitely favored to claim her third French Open crown after her incredible run last year. The World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka is also expected to deliver her best tennis at the championship. With the Italian Open crown, Elena Rybakina has established herself as an ‘all-court player’ and is the latest favorite for the major.
