Iga Swiatek defeated Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova in the final of the 2023 China Open to win the tournament after a phenomenal campaign. After the final, Samsonova talked about the aspects where she thought Swiatek got ahead of her in the match and she was all praise for the Polish international.
Samsonova opined that Iga Swiatek forces her opponents to make a lot of errors by stressing them out and applying pressure on them. This is what she felt after playing the final against the Pole. “I think this is what she’s doing the best because this is the stress that she made to other players, that she doesn’t make unforced errors. Every time you need to do something more. It’s not real what you feel, but she makes you feel like this. This is what I learned today,” said the Russian international.
Iga Swiatek dominated the final from the very beginning. She ended up defeating Samsonova by a clear margin of 6-2, 6-2, and the Russian never really got a chance to get back into the game. Samsonova herself had a phenomenal campaign in the China Open too. She defeated Petra Kvitova, Marta Kostyuk, Jelena Ostapenko, and Elena Rybakina en route to the final, where she ultimately lost to Swiatek.
Liudmila Samsonova is already set to start her campaign at the WTA 125K Zhengzhou soon. She was supposed to face Jasmine Paolini in the first round but the match was canceled. Samsonova will now face Tatjana Maria in the Round of 32 of the tournament.
Iga Swiatek broke down in tears after winning the China Open
Iga Swiatek revealed after winning the final in her post-match conference that she did not expect to win the competition at the start of it and that she was proud of herself. This win clearly meant a lot to her, as she broke down in tears after winning the final against Liudmila Samsonova.

Swiatek has been suffering from a rough patch lately. She lost to Coco Gauff in the semi-final of the Cincinnati Open, which was her first loss ever against the youngster, and then went on to get eliminated too early from the US Open.
Moreover, she lost her World No.1 rank to Aryna Sabalenka. Her victory in the China Open shows that she is now back for redemption.
