Nick Kyrgios is a fantastic player. He always pleases the crowd wherever he goes. On the court, his antics and behavior intrigue all even his fans, opponents, legends, media, umpire, and tennis fraternity as a whole.
As an entertainer, Kyrgios is fantastic. He talks to everyone and involves everybody, both those who are present in the stadium and also who are miles away. The Australian irritates his opponents but whatever he does, surely gives fans a lot of fun stuff to talk about.
Concerning his antics on the court, Nick Kyrgios, came clear on why he does what he does. In his own words, he makes the sport interesting. “Make it interesting, entertain me and I’ll entertain back, Ask Away” he posted on social media encouraging fans to ask him questions.
When asked to describe tennis in 3 words, he chose, “Lonely. Repetitive. Unique.” Surely, whenever, Nick Kyrgios is playing stadium is filled. Some are overjoyed by his eccentric behavior but some are disgusted by it.
Why does Nick Kyrgios behave wildly?
People may have different opinions about him but Kyrgios has always maintained that he does all these gimmicks to keep himself cool. He argues with the umpire, with the linesman, and even with himself. He does these things because he expects a lot from himself. And if his expectations are not met in reality, this translates into frustration.
He wants to always perform at his best and optimum level in the match and win every tournament that he plays in. But that is not possible and we all know that. Even Kyrgios too.
He thus tries to break his opponent’s concentration and make them do mistakes that he can play to his benefit. More often than not, such tactics work and have helped him to win matches. But these tactics have failed to help him win against the greats such as Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
He is a gifted player. And in recent times, he has brought some sort of stability to his game and behavior. With improved behavior, his performance has also improved on the court. He breached into the top 20 of the ATP rankings again.
He also made it to the final of the Wimbledon. He also won the Australian Open men’s doubles title with fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis earlier this year. It will be interesting to see what changes Kyrgios brings to his game in the upcoming season. But whatever he does, he will always be known as the “Bad Boy of Tennis”.
