‘Loss for tennis’ Andy Murray withdraws from the Madrid Open prior to the match against Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray
On a highly disappointing day at the 2022 Madrid Open, the clash between tennis giants Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic gets cancelled as the Brit was forced to withdraw from the tournament. The highly-anticipated clash was set to start the day at the Manolo Santana Stadium but it will be the tournament’s misfortune that the two greats won’t be playing.
As per the official statement released by the tournament, Murray has been taken down by illness and as a result, finds himself unable to contest against the Serbian in what would have been the first meeting between the two Grand Slam champions in over 5 years having last played in January 2017.
This confirms the entry of Djokovic into the quarter-finals of the Masters event as he gets a walkover from Murray. Novak is into the quarter-finals of the tournament for the 9th time now as he is making his 13th appearance at the Caja Magica in the Spanish capital.
