LTA and PrimeVideo take inspiration from Emma Raducanu’s US Open triumph to kickstart girls’ tennis programme

Emma Raducanu, the 19-year-old British teen sensation had the world at her feet last year. Being just 18 years of age, Raducanu stunned the world last year as he won the US Open after defeating Leylah Fernandez in the penultimate match at Flushing Meadows. What’s even more impressive is that Raducanu won the tournament coming into it as a qualifier.
Raducanu winning the US Open was very beneficial for the sport in the UK. The teenager was hailed as a sensation in the country, Raducanu influenced many after her dream run at last year’s US Open. Her win was followed by tennis’ fanbase increasing a lot in the country. It increased so much that PrimeVideo and the LTA have collaborated to launch a new girls-only tennis program with the hope of inspiring the coming generation.
Talking about the initiative, Raducanu said, “I’m extremely pleased to see the funds generated from the US Open Final go towards this new programme, which is a step in the right direction to bring more young girls into the sport and will continue to support a bright future for women’s tennis in this country. As an ambassador of LTA Youth, it’s great to see a complimentary program take shape and hopefully bring some more success.“
Emma Raducanu gets ridiculed after another disappointing performance
After Raducanu failed to defend her US Open title, she faced much trolling over the internet. Raducanu then competed in some tournaments where again she was unable to perform. Most recently, Raducanu competed at the Ostrava Open where she was eliminated by Daria Kasatkina in the first round of the tournament.
She managed to reach the semi-finals of the Korea Open but she was eliminated in the last four stage. The young Brit was unable to perform well at the Slovenia Open as well. Raducanu has faced early exits in the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon as well.
