Madrid Open 2022

The Madrid Open is a claycourt event classified as the ATP Tour Masters 1000 on the ATP tour and WTA1000 on the WTA tour. It is played between men and women on the red clay surface but only in 2012, it was played on a blue surface.

Alexander Zverev is the defending champion at the Madrid Open 2022 on the men’s side. He won last year’s finals against the Italian Matteo Berrettini clinching the title in 3-sets. This time everyone will be looking at the return of the clay king Rafael Nadal. If he recovers from his rib injury he got in the Indian wells semifinals against Carlos Alcaraz. We saw him practice for the tournament and shouldn’t be surprised to see him playing as a seed.

The Spaniard’s main goal will be to win the Roland Garros and would want to practice before the French Open. Aryna Sabalenka is the defending champion for women having defeated Ash Barty in the finals last year. The qualifying matches will start on 26th April and the Main draw starts on 28th April the quarterfinals will be played on 4th May and the semifinals on the 5th of May. The final is scheduled for the 7th of May.
