Marco Cecchinato faced the German player Yannick Hanfmann in the Round of 32 of the 2023 Italian Open. Hanfmann triumphed, defeating the Italian 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, and advancing to the Round of 16. The Italian audience, known for their fervent support, started heaping scorn on Hanfmann.

A video of the two players interacting during the third round set 2 was posted on Tennis TV. The crowd’s boos and mixed shouts can be plainly heard. Marco Cecchinato was agitated as he spoke with Yannick Hanfmann. The German national appeared calm and placed his hand on Marco Cecchinato’s shoulder, most likely to cool him down.

Cecchinato’s furious movements and disgruntled expression persisted. He got on the slap and shoved the camera that was capturing his POV behind him. Fans argue that if it had been a different nationality, the player would have been defaulted for misconduct on the spot.

The Italian plainly couldn’t keep his cool as the competition heated up. He was visibly frustrated and shoved the cameraman, who was only doing his job. Tennis has long valued respect, and these sorts of exchanges send an incorrect impression about the game.

Marco Cecchinato’s cryptic message in April

Marco Cecchinato caused some confusion back in April 2023 when he left a weird message. He wrote an unreadable quote on a camera after winning a match against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The quote was, “Bla bla bla…Divano..Godo Godo.” Even though it sounds like baby lingo and absolute gibberish, the fans have tried to interpret the quote in different ways.

Even Marco Cecchinato himself might not know what it meant and just wrote it for fun. Some people pointed out that “Bla bla bla” meant talking too much, “Divano,” meant ‘couch’, and “Godo godo” meant ‘happy’.

Fans think that Marco Cecchinato did this to sarcastically answer the haters who criticized his playstyle and personality. This caused quite some confusion in social media. Opinions were split as some thought that it was a reference to his personal life, while others considered it as a message to the haters.
