Maria Sakkari, the Greek sensation, has successfully qualified for the WTA finals and will be seen in action soon. The Greek has always been well received by the fans in Mexico, and she thanks them for their warm welcome and more.
Recently, a horrible hurricane called Otis destroyed the region of Acapulco in Mexico. The terrible incident took the lives of thirty-nine people, and over 10 people have gone missing due to the devastating storm. The tennis player sent her kind wishes to the people of Acapulco.
It was very tough to see. Very sad what happened. I just feel like no words can describe how these people feel over there. I saw the pictures of the hotel & the stadium. It’s extremely sad. Many terrible things are happening in the world at the same time.Maria Sakkari said during the Press meet
Continuing her train of thought, she further added:
I really hope the tournament can somehow recover. But I think the tournament is the least people should care about. People lost their homes. It’s very tough to see that. it’s a terrible position for them to be in. I wish we could do something to recover their homes & the whole area over there.
Maria Sakkari gears up ahead of her first group stage match of the WTA finals
The Greek sensation, Maria Sakkari, started her WTA finals campaign by facing World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka first. The Greek unfortunately did not cut through the list of the top 8 women, but luckily, she was the first choice to replace Karolina Muchova, who had to withdraw due to an injured wrist. This would be her debut in the WTA finals, and she will look to make a huge impact.
Her draw consists of top-ranked players like Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, and Elena Rybakina. To win against all three top players, the Greek must play her best tennis and try to go deep in the tournament. She has played the Belarusian nine times and has won only three times.
The records prove against the favor of the Greek, but she is very capable of proving the records wrong and making her place in the finals. Both the draws in the finals are very thrilling, and all the matches will be close ones that will entertain the fans.
