Maria Sharapova, former tennis champion and one of the greatest to ever grace the court, has expressed her elation over Coco Gauff‘s remarkable US Open triumph. In a recent interview, Sharapova praised Gauff’s exceptional talent and predicted that she would effortlessly navigate the highs and lows of her career.
In a recent interview on the Rennae Stubbs Tennis podcast with Andrea Petkovic, she admired Gauff’s potential and thinks that the 19-year-old has the ‘ability to transcend the sport into so many’ bridging entertainment, sport and culture, and fashion. Gauff, like Sharapova herself, possesses the converted ‘full package’.“She has such a great voice and is an amazing competitor, which is just like the full package. And it came together for her in New York City,” said Maria on the podcast.
Speaking more about Gauff’s journey, the former Russian player acknowledged Gauff’s struggle. “I think her journey has been interesting. From the age of 16, she has been the prospect and the target and everyone believed that she would get there,” continued Maria. The Russian also said that it is good that Coco did not peak from the beginning and it actually took some time for her to rise to the top.
