Maria Sharapova is a former world number 1, and one of the only ten women to achieve the career Grand Slam. She won her first Grand Slam at Wimbledon in 2004 at the age of 17. After the stupendous achievement, she was catapulted to glory, capturing a lot of media attention, brand deals, and endorsements. She has won 36 career titles and earned more than $38 million in prize money.
Sharapova’s career was filled with injuries and she achieved a great deal in spite of all the challenges she faced. She retired from the sport in 2020. Sharapova appeared in advertisements for a lot of famed brands including Nike, Canon, and Prince. She was also the face of several fashion houses including Cole Haan, an American luxury brand. Even though Sharapova represented Russia, she resided in the USA since 1994 and is a permanent resident of the country.

Maria Sharapova is the only tennis player on the Forbes list.
Besides her earnings in prize money and endorsements, Sharapova is also a savvy businesswoman. She started her own line of candy, chocolates, and other delicacies named Sugarpova. She is also an investor holding equity stakes in a home gym startup Tonal, investing platform Public.com and MoonPay, which helps users trade cryptocurrencies, in exchange for promoting those brands. She has also joined the board of Moncler, an Italian billionaire’s fashion brand.
With a valuation of about $220 Million, Sharapova has re-entered the Forbes list of Wealthiest self-made women Under 40, after dropping off in 2021. Fellow tennis star and sporting icon Serena Williams left the list, not because of her valuation ($260 Million), but due to her recently crossing 40 years, leaving Sharapova as the only tennis player on the prestigious list.
