Former tennis star Maria Sharapova has been enjoying her time away from tennis, keeping herself busy with various sports events. A few months ago, she also announced that she was giving birth to a baby boy, whom she has named Theodore Gilkes. The former tennis great recently took to her Twitter handle to announce her new project at the 2023 UNMATCHED Conference.

Maria has been chosen as one of the speakers at the event organized by Tennis Canada and National Bank, which is set to be scheduled for August 9. She also commented on the recent problems that have circulated in the world of sports and how she would like to speak on those matters. “Gender Equity” is a major controversy in the field of sports, and Sharapova has been elected to share her views on this issue at the Canadian Open in Toronto next month.

Did Sharapova fail to give her career the direction it deserved?

Maria took the tennis world by storm at a very young age, dethroning the queen during that time, Serena Williams, and lifting the Wimbledon title at just 17 years old. She was always considered second-best against Serena, but she was the only one who was in constant battle with the American in the last two decades. Having won just five Grand Slams in her entire career, it simply doesn’t do justice to the Russian considering the amount of intensity she has shown in her playing tenure.

Being always associated with one injury or another and further getting involved in a doping issue in 2016, which led to a huge suspension from sports, she thereby failed to reach the top. She retired at the end of 2020 at the age of just 32, putting an end to all her struggles but also bringing a great deal of sadness and grief into the lives of tennis fans with her decision.
