When it comes to being called the ‘Drama Queen’ on the court, there are very few names that would beat Benoit Paire. The Frenchman is famous for the tantrums he throws on the court. He is often super animated, and this is one of the main reasons for his failure.
From breaking racquets in almost every match to making controversial remarks, Paire has done it all. Often, commentators and ex-players have weighed in on his behavior on the court. Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli is one of the ex-players who has criticized the Frenchman quite a lot over the last few years. She has repeatedly questioned his on-court behavior and feels that is the main reason behind his failure.
Well, from what it looks like, Paire hasn’t really appreciated the criticism that he has received over the years. There is a certain amount of tension in the air for sure. Bartoli when asked about her relationship with the Frenchman was very clear that it’s Paire who is making it an issue. He is the one responsible for making their relationship a bit salty over the years.
“Benoit Paire? It was above all he who continued in the clash, he made it a slogan. Me, I have a little less childish spirit. It’s more irony than anything. We’ve known each other for a very long time, we got along well, and he’s also a fan of OM,” said the former Wimbledon champion. From her words, she certainly suggests that the fuss created in her relationship with Paire is unnecessary. She also feels that the clash is being dragged on by Paire for absolutely no reason.
What’s been Benoit Paire’s 2023 status?
Benoit is one of the most talented players on the tour. The fact that he made it to the top 20 in the world in 2016 is evidence to support the statement. However, the rival he hasn’t been able to overcome in his career is his own emotions. With repeated breakdowns and then the failures that are the product, he has fallen to 160th in the ranks. 2023 has been really disappointing for the French, as he hardly made it to the main draw of two events out of the many he played.
The low rank and lack of success made him play a lot of challenger events. What was more frustrating was also the fact that he didn’t get great success on the challenger tour as well. A bunch of first-round exits and very few deep runs have been his season this time around. Well, before it gets too late, the Frenchman would want to turn around this season. He would want to win the qualifying rounds and get into tournaments more frequently. That would give him the best chance of having a dream run.
