Stefanos Tsitsipas lost in the second round of the 2023 US Open and soon rumors had spread that the Greek had “fired” his coach Mark Philippoussis. There have been many speculations about this matter and fans are lashing out at Stefanos for apparently firing his coach. Silvana Philippoussis, wife of Mark, set the record straight by giving insights into what had actually happened.

According to the coach’s wife, Mark wasn’t fired by his client. She clarified that Mark’s contract was temporary and was set to finish after the US Open. “I had to clarify this point because it is absolutely false! Their collaboration was always supposed to end after the US Open! It was their agreement from the start!.”

There is no bad blood with the Tsitsipas family and they have mutually agreed that the US Open will end their contract. She finished her statement by portraying her love for Stefanos and his family. “We love and respect the Tsitsipas family and wish them the best,” said Silvana. (H/T: welovetennis.fr)

Stefanos Tsitsipas, the World No. 7, has been coached by his father, Apostolos, for most of his life. Soon Australian player turned coach Mark Philippoussis joined their team as a coach before temporarily becoming the coach for the Greek. He has known Stefanos for a long time and their tenure has now ended on good terms.

During their coaching period, Mark offered his guidance and expertise to the Greeks. Tsitsipas had improved a lot from the past year and even reached the finals of the Australian Open. However, this year, he has failed to play at his best and his second-round exit from the US Open also added to that list.

It is unclear who will replace Mark as Stefanos’s new coach, but the Greek is soon to make an announcement. Stefanos also lost in the men’s doubles tournament alongside his brother. The fans are waiting to see the change in Tsitsipas when he finally gets a new coach.
