There’s a lot of hard work involved in winning seven consecutive matches in any Grand Slam event. It is even more special to do something of this sort after you are an unseeded player. That’s exactly what Marketa Vondrousova has done at the All England Club at this year’s Wimbledon Championships on Centre Court. Coming into the match as the underdog against last year’s finalist, Ons Jabeur, it wasn’t going to be easy to win. She stood tall against the challenge and showcased some high skills.

She beat the Tunisian 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets. After the match, this is what Vondrousova had to say,”I don’t know what is happening; it is an amazing feeling. Ons congratulations, you are such an inspiration for us. I hope you win some day, you are an amazing person. After everything I have been through it is amazing I can stand here and hold this.

Continuing her train of thought, she further added, “Tennis is crazy! The comebacks aren’t easy you don’t know what to expect, I was hoping I could get back to this level and now this is happening. Thank you to my box, my little sister she is crying! I mean it is amazing, tomorrow is our first wedding anniversary. It’s great to have you guys here, I enjoyed the two weeks so much. I am so grateful and proud of myself.

I made a bet with my coach, if I won a grand slam he was going to get a tattoo too – I think we are going to go tomorrow! think I am going to have some beer, it was an exhausting few weeks. Thank you, guys, for the support!” Vondrousova was extremely thrilled after winning the title. She looked emotional and overwhelmed by the entire occasion. It was obvious that she would feel like this.

It’s not easy to be Ons Jabeur right now. Having lost three Grand Slam finals in a year’s time is not going to be an easy pill to swallow. She lost Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek last year at Wimbledon and the US Open. However, she stayed strong this time around. On her path to the final, she defeated defending champion Rybakina and World no. 2 Aryna Sabalenka.

However despite all that she couldn’t surpass the unseeded Marketa Vondrousova. She will need to keep believing and be as positive as possible. The tables will turn and she will soon have her hands on the trophy. There have been many players who have lost multiple finals before winning their first Grand Slam. The Tunisians should keep that in mind.
